Los Angeles Police Department officers arrested six people suspected in two unrelated home burglaries in Chatsworth that occurred on Friday, officials said.
The two incidents happened about eight and a half hours apart, in areas separated by roughly an eighth of a mile, with the railroad tracks that cut through the community dividing the two locations.
Afternoon break-in on Willowbrae Avenue
The first burglary occurred around 1 p.m. at a home in the 10600 block of Willowbrae Avenue, an area west of Canoga Avenue.
According to the LAPD, the homeowner was not present at the time but later reviewed her home security camera footage and saw that at least two people had broken into the residence. When she returned home, she spotted the alleged suspects attempting to leave her property in a getaway car.
As the suspects tried to escape, they crashed into the victim's vehicle, rendering their own car inoperable before fleeing on foot, police said. After a nearly hour-long search, officers from the LAPD Devonshire Division located and arrested three people suspected in the afternoon burglary.
Evening burglary on Alabama Avenue, pursuit across the city
The second burglary took place a little before 9 p.m. in the 10500 block of Alabama Avenue, just across the railroad tracks from the first location.
LAPD officers were already in the area when the burglary was first reported. Officers quickly located a suspected getaway vehicle and tracked it to Hollywood while attempting to confirm whether property had been taken.
