# Gas Leak in Sylmar Prompts Evacuation of 12-Unit Apartment Building
A ruptured gas main caused a leak of natural gas in Sylmar Saturday, prompting authorities to evacuate a 12-unit apartment complex. The leak was reported at about 12:03 p.m. Saturday at 14128 W. Polk St., near Foothill Boulevard and the Foothill 210 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
There were no reports of injuries or medical complaints at this time, the LAFD said.
The gas leak was caused by an approximately 1-inch gas main break, officials said. The apartment building at 14128 Polk St. was evacuated with 12 units affected, authorities said.
The LAFD reported that the line was secured at 2:06 p.m., but said it would probably take a few hours to restore service to those affected. There was no active fire hazard, the department added.
There are no reports of injuries or medical complaints at this time, the LAFD said.
The incident occurred near the Foothill 210 Freeway on W. Foothill Blvd., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The evacuation lasted about two hours before the line was secured.
Residents in the area were urged to avoid the area while crews worked to repair the damaged gas main. No injuries were reported from the incident.
