* — The family of the motorcyclist killed in a hit-and-run crash on Sept. 22 is asking the public's help to identify the minivan driver who fled the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The deadly crash occurred at around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Carpenter Avenue in Studio City. According to the LAPD, the motorcyclist was heading east on Ventura Boulevard when a blue Honda Odyssey minivan traveling in the opposite direction turned left onto Carpenter Avenue.
The rider struck the minivan and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda Odyssey continued southbound on Carpenter Avenue before abandoning the van and leaving the area without identifying themselves or rendering aid to the motorcyclist, police said.
Although officers have impounded the van involved in the crash, the hit-and-run driver remains unidentified.
The family of the motorcyclist identified him as 36-year-old Philip Chon, whom they described as a beloved brother, son, fiancé, uncle, and friend.
"We are asking the community and local news outlets for help in identifying the driver responsible," Chon's family told KTLA. "Someone may have seen something, and even the smallest detail could help bring justice for Philip and accountability for those involved."
"Philip was deeply loved and touched countless lives through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for others," the family said in a statement. "We hope that by sharing his story, someone will come forward with information that helps investigators move this case forward."
The Los Angeles Police Department is also asking the public for help identifying the minivan driver. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $50,000 to anyone who can provide information leading to the driver's identification, apprehension, and conviction.
