# Firefighters knock down commercial building fire on Keswick Street in Van Nuys, no injuries
VAN NUYS, CA — Thirty-seven Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters brought a commercial building fire on Keswick Street in Van Nuys under control in about 40 minutes on Saturday, with no injuries reported, the department said.
The blaze was reported around 6:44 p.m. Saturday, October 3, at 14707 W. Keswick St. A first arriving unit found a single-story commercial building, roughly 50 by 150 feet, with light to moderate smoke showing, according to the LAFD incident alert. The department logged the fire as INC#1686.
Crews launched an offensive attack, moving hose lines in close to extinguish the flames rather than holding a defensive perimeter. LAFD issued its knockdown alert at 10:34 p.m. Saturday.
The response drew 18 fire units, including engine, truck, rescue ambulance, and battalion command resources identified as AR1, BC10, BC712, E239, E289, E298, E39, E7, E81, E89, EM15, RA39, RA73, RA93, RA98, T39, T89, and T98.
The incident fell under the command of LAFD Fire Station 81, located at 14355 Arminta Street in Panorama City, the primary responding station for that stretch of the San Fernando Valley. Battalion 10, headquartered at 14415 Sylvan Street in Van Nuys, oversaw the response. The station and battalion sit under LAFD's Valley Bureau.
LAFD arson investigators have taken over the scene to determine the cause of the fire. No cause has been announced. Investigators are sworn peace officers under California Penal Code Section 830.37(a), which grants them powers of search, arrest, and evidence seizure during fire origin investigations.
After a knockdown, crews typically move into an overhaul phase, which can include opening walls and ceilings to put out hidden embers and reduce the risk of reignition.
The incident occurred in Los Angeles City Council District 6, according to the City of Los Angeles.
The department has not released further updates on the Keswick Street fire.
